27 May A Real Win For Kauai!!
Aloha,
Great News For The People Of Kauai
Please click to see HG Kauai Joint Venture LLC’s Withdrawal of their Amended Petition, ending days of testimony before the Land Use Commision (LUC)!
In a current hearing before the LUC, HG Kauai Joint Venture LLC was requesting a District Boundary Amendment for 96 acres of Kapa’a Ag land, seeking a reclassification to Urban. They needed the LUC to grant the reclassification in order to build Hokua Place, a plan for 769 Units just mauka of the Kapa’a Bypass, one of the busiest traffic quarters on Kauai.
Their Amended Petition was strongly opposed by hundreds concerned about the lack of infrastructure (no potable water, waste water services, or adequate roads) to support the development. It would have been a hard 10yrs. for Kauai, the projected construction period.
People on Kauai already have to deal with the Kapa’a crawl. Now, without HP, at least the crawl won’t be worsened.
Clearly had the LUC not done such a stellar job exposing the serious flaws with their plan, there would have been a huge adverse impact to the quality of life for everyone on Kauai. There’s one road from north to south and we all are better off with the developer’s decision to throw in the towel.
Intervenor, Liko Martin, was supported by Friends of Maha’ulepu, the Sierra Club and Community Coalition Kauai and many who joined in Liko’s efforts to preserve the 96 acre Ag parcel, a significantly historic parcel documented as Crown Lands with a real question as to Title.
